Match Report - 16 Sep 2026, Avon Bowling Club (est 1924) Pickering Triples 2 lost to Pickering Autumn Gala, RLS
My Final match report is a microcosm of my time as captain, some heavy defeats, some agonisingly close defeats and the occasional golden ray of victory.
At the Pickering Gala are more than 30 teams made up of triples from clubs in all 3 divisions of the Pickering League. Given that we remain rooted to the bottom of Division 3 our chances of success were pretty slim from the outset.
Avon Ken, Kevin and Colin, played against triples from Warwick County Council, Avenue Leamington, Southampton and FISSC, but while remaining cheerful and optimistic throughout the spoils of war never came their way.
Avon Andy, Nic. W and special guest from Pickering 1 Dave Waite managed to turn a lead of four into a loss of three in one end and defeat against Shipston, stuffed Avenue 10 - 4 and then becames stuffees against Stratford 3 - 12 and Lillington 4 - 8.
It was a long but enjoyable day which brought our long but enjoyable season to a close. Thanks to everyone who played for or supported us this year (there were a lot of you). I’m sure you’ll give the same support to Andy and Kim next year as we begin our slow but inexorable climb up the table.
